In each of our lives there comes a time when we are shown a unique and perhaps wonderful opportunity. Something special coming just to us. Something amazing.
Maybe it’s an awesome job opportunity or a lucky break finding a new place to live. Or maybe a new friend walks into our life, or perhaps a new lover. Or maybe we uncover a new talent that we never even dreamed was there. Or we get discovered for an older talent that we’ve been pursuing for years. Or maybe some combination of these.
The point being, something terrific steps into our life.
And suddenly, we find ourselves afraid. Maybe even terrified. Stymied. Stunted. Stultified.
All of the goodness that so seemingly easily swept into our life, we’re now bringing to a screeching halt. Stopped.
No exchange of energy. Dead in the water.
Suddenly, we find that we’re at a fork in the road. A place where the two paths diverge. One going along at status quo. One bounding off onto the road less traveled.
So which do you take?
Status quo can seem like a peaceful lake, looking so serene and placid with no waves at all. But on such lakes, the most terrible storms can blow up in what seems like a matter of moments, and deep currents of discontent can reside below the surface, pulling you under slowly. Is this what you want?
Is the road less traveled any better? Often it’s bumpy and filled with ups and downs. Many times we travel that road alone, because so few are willing to venture there. And maybe we’re not even ready for the wonderful thing standing right in front of us.
But the road less traveled holds many treasures and will take us to beautiful places where we’ve never been before. At the end of this road, albeit often a difficult journey, we will often find ourselves feeling rich and fulfilled.
What to do?
As always, the decision is yours. You decide how you’d like to proceed. You decide how to run your life and yourself.
But always remember this…lightning doesn’t strike twice.
While you will have many other opportunities in your life, this one special opportunity – this one unique and precious moment – will never happen again. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Never again will this precise combination of factors present itself.
So do you want to turn your back and walk away from this chance?
I think not. Because lightning doesn’t strike twice.
